Leadership
Pastor Liz Buxton

Pastor Liz Buxton comes to Texas after nineteen years and four previous appointments in the Virginia Conference. With a BS in Sociology from Southwest Missouri State [Springfield, MO], a Master in Theology from the School of Theology at Claremont [Claremont, CA], an Elementary Education teaching credential from UCLA, and her M.Div. from Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary [Louisville, KY], she has worked and lived in many different places. She has learned that folks have a lot more in common than not, and most of our differences just make life interesting.

Her teaching positions included her first job as a second-grade teacher in Watts, CA, sixth-grade teacher on the Arizona-Mexico border, university professor at a women’s university in Seoul, South Korea, and back to elementary teaching in beautiful, aromatic downtown Oklahoma City. She has served four appointments in Virginia since 2002 and is semi-retired and serving the Bertram UMC part-time. Ministry interests include but are not limited to children’s ministry, [uppity/bold] women in theology and the church, and social justice.

Born in Tucson, AZ, and raised in seriously rural Missouri, she is about to celebrate her 64th birthday. She has a grown son in Richmond who is often saddened by his mother’s lack of joy in ‘all things computer.’ Seriously introverted, she has been known to read a book or two, writes and leads a women’s retreat now and again, has been writing a book for some years now, and does some baking in her spare time.
